1972 Leyland Mini Clubman GT

This GT was advertised here on Carsales.com.au in June 2016, asking $15,000 - quite a lot, considering the restoration work still required (car is currently in pieces). It is however a great project for those looking for the super rare Australian GT.

The seller notes that everything is there for the restoration, including importantly the original engine with the correct number stamping. They believe the engine to be the original bore which appears in good condition. It still has its standard extractors, gear knob (very hard to find), and its original interior trim. The air filters are the non-standard pancake type and it has an 8 track player fitted under the rear seat. There is also a Momo period sports steering wheel, however, the original Leyland wheels are not difficult to come by if you were restoring this to original specifications.

Other than these minor items, the car is otherwise completely standard. The trim is described as being in exceptionally good for condition for the age. This is particularly valuable, as the trim applied to the GT is actually unique (as compared to the standard Clubman and other models). Ebay examples of original trim in good condition have exceeded $1,800 (AUD) in the recent past.

The body and floor pans are in excellent condition, with no rust noted, and the original carpet and underlay is all intact. Boot board, boot lid cover and under bonnet insulation are also all intact. The Hydrolastic suspension holds pressure, and no leaks have been noted by the seller. A couple of small dents and imperfections are all that is noted in what otherwise would make an easy restoration base.
