1998 Lexus LS 400

This was the last iteration of the LS400 - Lexus' flagship model and the model that really established the brand's reputation for exceptional quality. These were particularly popular in the USA, competing directly with the S-class. These later facelifted iterations of the first series car (which ran from the early 90s) are relatively rare, and it's pleasant to see them in great condition over 20 years on. They certainly have a following and hold a bit of value in people's minds. I love the wheels fitted to this one, which make it's stance appear a bit more modern..

This particular example was advertised on Facebook marketplace in December 2021, asking $8,500 AUD. See the original advertisement here. At the time of advertising, the seller made the following comments about the car:

"My 1998 Lexus LS400, 4.0L V8 Luxury 'Limo' is, regrettably, for sale. She has been with me since February 2016, and I am the third lucky owner. Hand on heart, I absolutely love this car and always will. She has been such a reliable & loyal car, always starting, giving me no headaches and doesn't cost a lot to run. She is almost completely stock. The interior is in excellent condition with everything working, all electrics, sunroof, everything working well. I fitted an aftermarket Bluetooth mobile phone adapter to the stereo system, which piggybacks off the CD player to provide Bluetooth steaming music & phone calls, all while retaining the original Lexus stereo. Original suspension front seats still work with all electrics and leather in good condition. The exterior does let her down a bit. There are a fair few scratches & scuff marks, and a bit of damage to the front right of the bumper bar and the left front door area from minor accidents, which I'll go into more detail below. The sunroof works perfectly and does not leak at all. Tyres are in good condition, and there is plenty of life left in them. Even the front headlight auto levelling system still works! Mechanically, she is in good condition, although a few areas could be addressed. I performed a recent service (oil & oil filter, cabin filter, air filter), but she also needs a gearbox service. The sump and bottom area of the engine is damp from a leaking fluid point, appears to be a minor coolant or oil from the rocker cover, but does not affect engine performance or any critical parts. A/C is working perfect, excellent & cold air. Other than this, the engine is healthy, and the power is plentiful. The gearbox is working perfectly too, only needs an oil & filter change. She is an old girl, and minor issues should be expected from a vehicle this age. Original logbooks & service history included. Unfortunately, she has been involved in a few accidents – 3 accidents which are vehicles that have hit my car, and one minor accident where I touched the front left door of a person's rear bumper. The first accident was when a small truck veered into my lane and smashed the front right driver's door. I then purchased a new driver’s door from a car wrecker and installed it myself. The second accident was when my car was parked, and someone exiting the driveway behind hit the rear right-hand side. The repair was carried out professionally under the third party's insurance, but unfortunately, the paint is cracked at one point where the repair is. The third accident was a delivery truck clipping the front right bumper and pulling it mostly off. I re-installed the bumper with a few screws. I have video evidence of the first two accidents from my dash cam if you would like to see. I want to be upfront & honest on this ad now so that it filters out all the people who aren’t interested. If you can see past these minor issues, you too will really enjoy this car as I have for the past 5-6 years. It honestly kills me to let her go as there aren't any cars with this much luxury, power, safety features and reliability for this price on the market! Remember, Toyota owns Lexus, and this car was $160,000 back in 1998! I encourage inspections, and test drives are welcome. She is priced according to market & overall condition, and I am negotiable on the right buyer going to a good home. Cash only, no personal or bank cheques and no bank transfers.
