The Mini LS was not officially released until July 1977. However, with the Melbourne Motor Show held in March that year, a couple of pre-production cars were built in January/February 1977 to showcase the upcoming model. This particular LS is one of the pre-production cars, and is believed to be the car which appeared on the stand of the Melbourne Motor Show (see the final image in the gallery of the LS on the stand).
This LS is a three owner vehicle. The first owner of the car was a mini enthusiast and is believed to have purchased the car off the stand at the 1977 Melbourne motor show. This history was communicated to the current owner by the second owner who was a friend of the first.
Although no official production records are available from Leyland, it is believed that approximately 500 “Silver Blue” LS Minis were produced. The 998 version of the LS was also offered in several other colours including Iridium Green, Nugget Gold and Hi-Ho Silver. All 998 LS’s were fitted with a vinyl roof which unfortunately led to significant rust in many of the cars, explaining their scarcity today.
The door cards in this example are original and check stamped January 1977. The five ROH wheels are original, with date stamps of January 1977. The car comes with the original boot mat in very good condition, and the original tool kit still in its original bag.
The odometer shows 64,927 km, but this is not indicative of the condition of the car. It has been fully rebuilt including the original engine and gearbox. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt using standard bearings and bushes. The car has only done 12,323 km since its complete restoration, and remains in immaculate condition.
There is an extensive booklet of research, communications and images of the restoration and research into the vehicle’s origins, making this example one of very few LS Minis documented from new. Shannons insurance have seen the paperwork for this vehicle and given a substantial agreed value. It was judged the second best mini at the National 50th anniversary show in July 2009 (beaten by the last 1275 LS held by the SA museum). Rather ironic that the first LS produced was beaten by the last LS produced. The car won best original Leyland at the Hey Nationals in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
The car is currently on club registration which is not transferable. However, Victorian custom “998 LS” plates are included in the price, and it will be supplied with Victorian RWC to suit the prospective buyer’s timetable. Offers around $25,000.00 will be considered. Substantial cost has been incurred restoring this car to its current condition. Please, no stupid offers, this is the real deal and there is extensive documentation to support the car’s authenticity.

RARE 1977 LEYLAND LS 998 – ONE OF ONLY TWO PRE-PRODUCTION CARS PRODUCED.
My arthritic joints are telling me that I need to get a more practical club car, so my very rare 1977 Leyland Mini LS is for sale. One of only two pre-production cars produced in February 1977. The LS model was not released until July 1977. It is believed that there were only 500 of the silver blue LS models produced. There are images on the internet of an LS on a stand at a motor show. This car is believed to be the car, which was exhibited at the Melbourne Motor Show in March 1977. The first owner was a Mini enthusiast and is believed to have purchased the car off the stand at the Melbourne Motor Show. This was communicated verbally by the second owner, who was a friend of the original owner. Door cards check stamped January 1977 and the five original rims are cast dated February 1977. Car comes with original boot mat in very good condition and original tool kit in original bag. Odometer showing 64,927 kms, but this is not indicative of the condition of the car. It has been fully rebuilt including the original engine and gearbox. (Note: engine and gearbox were rebuilt using standard bearings and bushes.) The car has only done 12,323 kms since the restoration. There is an extensive booklet of research communications and images of the restoration and research into the vehicle’s origins. Shannon’s Insurance have seen the paperwork for this car and given a substantial agreed value for the vehicle. Judged the second best Leyland Mini at the National 50th Anniversary Show in July 2009. (Beaten by the last 1275cc LS produced from the SA museum. Rather ironical that perhaps the first LS produced was beaten by the last LS produced). Won best original Leyland at Hay Nationals 2012, 2014 and 2015. Full history from new is known. Currently on club registration which is not transferrable, but Victorian ‘LS 998’ custom plates are included in the price. Will be supplied with Vic. RWC to suit buyer’s timetable. Offers around $28,000 considered. Please, no stupid offers, this car is the real deal and there is extensive documentation to support this. Vehicle will be sold ‘as is, where is’ with no warranties offered or implied. Contact via email firstname.lastname@example.org or 0407 266 688. Vehicle is located in Benalla. 3672.
There are only a handful of Lancia Delta Integrales in Australia, making this a particularly unique opportunity for the rally collector car enthusiast. This particular example was delivered new in Japan, then imported to Australia as a rally/race car. Like all 16v HF models, the car remains in its original left hand drive configuration, and the seller has retained the original factory seats which will go with the sale should the successful purchaser wish to return the car to factory specifications.
The Delta is widely regarded as the most successful rally car of all time, and dominated the sector in the late 80s and early 90s. The 16v Integrale was a significant improvement on several earlier 4WD performance variants of the Delta, including the HF 4WD and Integrale 8v. The introduction of the 16v Integrale saw immediate rally success, winning the 1989 San Remo Rally, and having numerous victories over the following two seasons. These cars are truly a thoroughbred rally car, where the road cars are actually related to the vehicles that competed on the track. For this reason, the Deltas continue to attract significant attention from collectors around the world.
This particular example is in very good condition, with no rust apart from a few small sealed and repaired spots around the front windscreen. The car was prepared by Maximum Motorsport of Australia for tarmac rally, or historic racing. However, the seller notes that the car has only completed in one 2-day tarmac rally since being prepared.
The car has a new Brad Stacey CAMS approved half roll-cage with all paperwork provided. It has brand new Cobra race seats, brand new Velo Hans 6 point harnesses, six brand new period 16 x 7.5 rims (similar style to the later “Evoluzione”), new custom stainless 3" exhaust, new aluminium radiator, adjustable coil-over suspension with new front Koni inserts, slotted rotors with near new Ferodo pads, 4 near new and 2 used Yokohama A050 tyres, upgraded turbo and Tanc Barratt chip, new long wheel stud conversion, new coolant hoses, new fire extinguishers, heavy duty clutch, Whiteline rear sway bar and new Rally Safe mounting kit. The car has always been very well maintained, all electrics are A1, and everything works - the alternator having also been reconditioned.
