This is one of the rare NZ GTs - delivered new from Australia, which came up for sale on Trademe.co.nz in 2026 (March), asking $24,500 NZD. It appears to be fairly original with the exception of the blue stripe!

The seller made the following comments in the original ad:

"This is a 72 model and therefore has the genuine cooper S engine (with tappet covers) - not the rationalised engine used in later GTs.

Interior is also very respectable for genuine GT original trim.

Has all the goodies:

  • matching numbers engine (cooper S style)
  • RH tank
  • 7.5” disc brakes
  • 120mph speedo with 6500rpm tacho
  • GT gear knob

This is the real deal - matching numbers car. Live rego (on hold). This is essentially a cooper S but in a clubman shell (even rarer than a Cooper S).

Car has been sitting for a number of years - hence deciding I obviously don’t need it. I see it was last road legal 6 years ago. Been started a couple of times since - but probably not in the last 3 or so years. Engine leaks a bit of oil.

No known rust issues - but it is a mini so would have to expect there will be some if fully stripped. But for a genuine GT it is a very good body. Older paint but presentable as is. Not sure what is up with the blue stripes - but they do grow on you over time! Would probably look smarter with the stripes change to black though.

Car is being sold as is where is with a very modest reserve on it considering it has been sitting. Depending on if there is a quick sale and how time allows I may look into trying to fire it into life and possibly even get it road legal (shouldn’t be too many issues as flew through last warrants - just been sitting idle since). Just put foot on clutch and it feels like it still has a clutch. Brake pedal isn’t seized either but does feel a little bit sticky. "
