1980 Ford Escort MK2 RS2000 Coupe

This rare 2-door is an all original matching numbers vehicle, spotted on Gumtree Australia in March 2017 asking $20,000 (AUD). The seller confirms the car has all its original glass, paint and fixtures with VIN number printed on them, original carpet and seats, original boot mat and much more. This is a very rare opportunity for the collector to obtain a time capsule RS2000.

The car reportedly runs well enough for at small drives. Although the car is original, it's far from being in great condition. There are ripped seats, some re-sprayed panels among other marks expected for a car this age. The front brakes have seized, but the seller notes they have been bled to allow the car to drive through it, and the gear shifter tends to pop out (this can be fixed by replacing the pin). There's a small rust spot under the passenger door, general surface rust, and the exhaust will need welding together in some spots. Will this be the next candidate to be exported to the UK? We hope there will be a few left in Australia, and the price seems to reflect knowledge of demand for these rare coupes.
