I've always wondered whether someone had done this already - and yes, it turns out this was completed in the early 90s, engineered in QLD. What they've done here is take an Opel Commodore or Rekord 2-dr body (same as the VB commo), and swapped out the gear and front/back end from a VL Calais!
This custom coupe has supposedly been garaged for 23 years, and at the time of advertising was asking $32,500. It hasn't sold at that price in over a month, which to be honest is a real surprise.. It would cost you a lot of time and effort to bring this sort of thing over from Europe and sort out the engineering..
Now, admittedly I'm not sure how QLD engineering certifications stack up in other states, but now at least this car could be put on club rego, I presume..
I always thought a V8 powered coupe would be amazing, but I never thought about adapting the Nissan engine, the same as used in the R31 Skyline.. Plenty of tuning options from that straight 6 3-litre which was very successful at Bathurst, so I guess this 6-cylinder version represents the closest thing to an Aussie Skyline.. It would be fantastic to see it also turbocharged, and have a manual transmission applied (wouldn't be difficult)..
What a find, and a great price.. If I didn't have too many cars I'd make an offer!
