We had purchased this car about 4 years ago damaged on the left front guard. It is now in the the process of repairs and restoration. Rare Green Iridium 998 LS Mini. Believed to be one of around 15 cars in this colour sold as a test case prior to the release of the 1275LS.

The owner of this car got in touch with us and has provided details of this rare LS for our register. This is one of very few Iridium Green 998 LS cars produced in 1977/1978 in the lead up to the release of the 1275LS. This is an interesting mini who's body may not in fact be an LS. The LS ID tag appears to be attached to the shell using aftermarket screws, and there do not appear to be flare backing panels extending down the front mudguard edge, suggesting that the shell may be a standard Leyland mini. This 998LS was on Ebay, January 2014. The car appears to be completely original, other than its white paint. This is a particularly rare 998LS. Like the Nugget Gold 998 LS and the Green 998 LS, this one is believed to be one of 15 produced in this colour, to test the market prior to the launch of the 1275LS later in 1978. This mini is a late model 998 LS, as indicated on its ID tag. 78 model 998 LS's had a similar ID tag to the 1275 LS, however, instead of an identification of XNFAD, they had an ID of XNFAB. The ID tag also did not specify "LS", as was the case with pre 78 models. This is my understanding of it, but please correct me if you know otherwise.
