It was the Evo V that did the hard work and earned Mitsubishi its 3rd straight manufacturers championship in 1998 under the guidance of Tommi Makinen. It was the success of the Evo V that encouraged Mitsubishi to persevere with the Group A format despite changing rules, and of course celebrate their success through the release of the TME EVO 6.5. These last of the Group A breed cars, they are now among a rare breed which truly represents a thoroughbred performance vehicle. It's those facts, and their relatively low production numbers that have the Evo V and VI in our top ten future classics list.
This particular Evo V is located in Northmead, Sydney, and according to its used import compliance decal it's been in Australia since 2012. The seller has owned the car for approximately 12 months, and built upon modifications made by previous owners - perhaps here on in Japan. This impressive list of improvements include the following:
The body is in great condition, with only a few scratches on the lower panels of the body kit (front/rear bumpers), as can be seen in the images. There does not appear to be any denting in the panels, and the paint and other finishes are in great condition. With a polish and small touch-ups, it could look immaculate. Underneath the car is in equally great condition, with no rust or serious damage spotted. We've included several images of the undercarriage for reference.
