This is my 1951 Australian timber bridgedeck cruiser. Not a Halvorsen, but a very similar style. It's fitted with a single 2005 Yanmar 160hp diesel engine, which in its current form tops out at about 12-13 knots, which is plenty for this sort of boat.
It has two sleeping berths in the front cabin, along with kitchen and bathroom which have been fully refurbished. The main central cabin is nearly complete, subject to installation of benches, table and a few other fixtures, fittings and trims. The main cabin will ultimately have one or two sleeping berths, and there are two further sleeping berths in the rear cabin (one double, one single). The rear cabin is still bare bones, and will likely remain that way for a few years (using it as the tool storage and workshop area)..
Outside, the decks have been rebuilt 15 years ago and glassed over. There is some rot in teh gunnel which has been patched up and will need attention on the port side, rear, but I'll get to that at some point.
I recently had the controls on the bridgedeck installed with a nice teak fascia, and replica Yanmar panel (the same as inside). It's fantastic cruising around from the bridge, and provides brilliant visibility.
Soon I'll have to re-do the varnish, but its fairly well protected by the storm covers fitted - and this varnish is pushing a decade and in most spots still looks good.. I'll need to take the re-varnish section by section - it's a big job.
Plenty to do, and I'm trying to make it better every year.. The toughest thing to keep on top of is the painting, and making sure fresh water keeps out. It has strong bones and is a very rewarding timber boat project. Hoping to have it for many decades to come and within a few years, hope to start doing some bigger trips on the Hawkesbury river and surrounds..
