We purchased this ‘75 Cosworth Vega from a local gentleman with an interesting collection of cars. The Vega was actually the largest in size of all his cars, the remainder being 60s Japanese and British coupes and roadsters. While the Vega didn’t see a ton of road use in the five years it was under his ownership (only about 1000 miles), it was always garage-kept and routinely run. Since taking possession of the car, we’ve flushed fluids, mounted a new set of tires, lubricated the chassis, installed a new carpet set, and begun to add miles. As it sits, the car feels really, really good on the road. It’s an absolute blast to drive; it’s pretty zippy with that little twin-cam motor, feels nicely balanced around corners, and all of the powered systems are functional. While there’s a number of minor cosmetic blemishes, this is an excellent driver-level Cosworth Vega. Exterior: - Black paint is a respray in the correct color. A paint gauge indicates that much of the lower portion of the car (doors and fenders below the pinstripe line) is still original paint, while the roof, hood, and upper body portion has been resprayed. While the respray shines nicely, you can see that a little bit of dust has settled under the paint on the roof and hood. It’s not glaring, but it is there. - Body is in nice shape. Only body damage is a small ding on the rearmost lip of the trunk lid. There are a good bit of paint chips, primarily on the trunk lid and lower driver door. - Some small bubbles under the paint on lower corners of front fenders - Gold pin striping is correct and is in good shape - Wheels are in great shape, with no curb rash. Tires are brand new. - Weatherstripping is in nice shape, with the exception of inside the rear hatch. - Glass is clear and crack-free throughout - Lights and signals are all functional. No cracks in light lenses. - Panel gaps dead on. Doors open and close with ease. Interior: - Black vinyl seats are in excellent shape. Only real sign of wear is a 2” tear on the outside of the driver’s headrest. No scuffing, no burst seams. Rear seats are excellent, and fold down flat to allow for a ton of cargo carrying capacity under the rear hatch. - Door panels are very nice. No kicked-open marks or much for signs of wear. - Brand new carpeting throughout - Gauges are all functional, as is the original radio. Aluminum cluster face shows some very minor age. Wipers, heat/defrost/fan/interior lights are all functional. Air conditioning was not an option on these cars. Windows are roll-ups, seats are manual adjust. - Dash has one partial crack in the middle, very very thin crack. - Headliner is in excellent shape. Shift boot is excellent as well. Mechanical: - Odometer reads 25,324 miles. Five digit odometer, so we cannot be sure if that’s 25k or 125k. The partial repaint and chipping down low leads us to believe it’s 125k miles, but the excellent condition of the underbody and interior would say otherwise. - Underbody is in very nice shape. Absolutely no through rust, and minimal surface rust. This car has been garage kept and the condition of the underbody speaks to that. - Documentation includes owners manual, Vega service/overhaul manual and supplemental Cosworth Vega service/overhaul manual. - A very confidence-inspiring driver. The car always starts right up without fail, idles cool and steady, accelerates and shifts nice and smoothly, brakes straight and effectively, and the car tracks straight down the road. Exhaust note from the twin-cam is fantastic, it hums like an angry swarm of bees. - We’ve given the car a thorough inspection and road test, and tended to needs where we saw them. These needs included new tires and a fluid flush. This ‘75 Cosworth Vega is a fun-to-drive little car that’s actually plenty practical with seating for four and a good bit of trunk space.
