Very rare to see a James Young S1 Sedan. At the time of writing, there are four or five other S1 Bentley's on carsales.com.au, but this one is certainly the most desirable, asking $82,000 when spotted in July 2023. This is a rare all-aluminium bodied ‘finned rear wing’ design (Design No. B10 Chassis No. B488AN) by James Young Ltd and the seller notes it is the only one of its type in Australia. The car is nearly fully restored with the period correct interior with Connolly hide, West of England head cloth and Wilton wool carpets; veneer woodwork has also been fully restored highlighting the exquisite burr walnut. The midnight blue paintwork looks very nice. The seller noted that the car has been very well cared for and recently serviced and comes with a complete set of correct tools, large and small, and an extensive history file with copies of original build sheets / purchaser correspondence. Original owner’s handbook, workshop and service schedule manuals are to hand. James Young produced just 27 of the B10 design on the S1 chassis (this car being no. 5 of 27) featuring distinctive square push buttons on door / boot handles and special brightwork and interior fittings; the only body parts common to the standard S1 being the bonnet and windscreen. Coachbuilt ‘S’ type cars are extremely rare; these cars were built for very discerning owners could afford to procure Bentley cars with their very distinctive coachwork and customer specific features – this car’s driver’s door features an original small cocktail cabinet complimented by a picnic set in the front passenger door. This particular car, Body No 3015, was originally ordered by Sir Ivan Stedeford, renowned UK industrialist, in 1955.
