1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee Hardtop

The second Super Bee from 1970 on the register - the 1970 model year is my favourite, with a very distinct "bee wing" front and rear end design. This colour has to be one of the best foir the 70s era - A Kermit green, which appeared in some form on most 1970s cars - even the classic Mini had a few colour options like this. I spotted this example on Ebay USA in May 2022, and at the time it was asking a classified price of $67,995. It's the 383 big block (of course that's the smallest of the big blocks, but still a huge engine). The seller did a great write up on the car, as outlined below extracted from the original ad:

"The styling for 1970 was pretty unique for this one model year. The super-hot Super Bee packaged muscle cars had a seriously mean appearance with the wide dual grilles that truly looked a bit like bumble bee wings. These separated grilles also seem to almost part the seas to draw your attention (and the air flow) right to the dual scoop hood. But what you're going to like best about this one is the overall fit and finish. This hardtop was treated to a full rotisserie-style restoration. The info says this was a two-year $60k investment, and that there are only about 1,000 miles on it since completion. That means they spent more time than the factory did making sure the body panels look great and the doors close with confidence. Mopars of this era had some ultra-desirable High Impact color options, and arguably none were bolder than this Sub-Lime green that nearly glows in the dark. It was only available in 1970 and the trim tag tells us this is the correct color. So they made sure to lay it down with care during the restoration. This one also has all the great details, such as the Super Bee white striping, bright chrome bumpers, aggressive red rear panel surround, wide dual exhaust tips, and the Super Bee mascot properly placed all around the coupe.

More unique colors continue inside. After all, you often see these interiors in black, but this one continues to give you the factory-correct white. It's on the wide bench seats, front headrests, side panels, and headliner of this fully restored package. So it's great to roll down all the windows on this pillar-less hardtop to show off how the stripes on the exterior and the interior are part of a coordinated white package. They also kept it practical with higher traffic areas like the steering wheel, dash, and carpeting all done in black. There was a lot of attention paid to getting the vintage details right with the working dome light, smooth wood-like trim, and even the AM radio with 8-track is still cranking out the tunes. In fact, the only thing not stock on this time capsule interior seems to be the special floor mats with bright green Super Bee embroidery.

You already know this generation of Super Bees only came with big block power, so you must know that this coupe doesn't disappoint. The 383 cubic-inch V8 does a good job of filling every inch of the very tidy engine bay. It is painted in the correct shade of Hemi Orange, and there are even good details - right down to the Magnum air grabber, decals, and classic-style battery topper. They paid attention to history because this is the numbers-matching unit. And as you can tell from the state of all the components, that powerplant has had a lot of service and care. It makes for a strong and solid driver. And that feeling is backed up by the right features, like power steering, power brakes, front discs, and the numbers-matching three-speed automatic transmission. Of course with how clean the restored undercarriage is, you probably will be quite picky about your joy rides."
