One for the collector. Many know of the Holden Dealer Team ("HDT") through Australian touring car racing, and HDT cars of the 80s now attract serious investment money. Like HDT, the Country Dealer Team ("CDT") created their own performance versions of various cars, and competed in touring car racing with driver and manager James Faneco, using the Holden Gemini. We just stumbled upon this example on uniquecarsales.com.au
CDT is best known for their Geminis which were enhanced and sold through the Country Dealer network Australia-wide, but they also dabbled in other makes including the Holden Commodore, and Ford Falcon. Here on Classic Register, we have a guide to one of their rare Falcon Turbo creations, the Dick Johnson Grand Prix Turbo. The CDT cars have a strong following, with the CDT forum and Facebook page full of great information for enthusiasts and owners.
This particular car is a very unique and historically significant example, claiming to be the first of a very small batch of 27 Gemini CDTSSs built, but more interestingly, claims to be James Faneco's own car. The sale also includes an official letter on CDT letterhead signed by James Faneco himself, authenticating the car as a genuine item, along with a bunch of historical gear, race-ware and photographs. The car also includes a number of desirable mechanical enhancements, and has plenty of features ready to race if you were so inclined. These are great looking cars dressed up with the CDT decals, and will surely appreciate in value with their interesting history. At (AUD) $17,500, we think it represents a very reasonable price considering the condition and the racing association that comes with a CDT car.
If you have a CDT Gemini, please add it to Classic Register! We'd love to see more examples of these cars and hope to produce an information guide in future for some of the specific CDT models.
