Here's a classic Series 1 LS400 from 1990 - spotted on Gumtree Australia in December 2021, asking $12,000 AUD. Known to go for a million Ks, this one has plenty of life left despite being over 30 years old. They competed against the S Class Mercedes, but the Lexus was a far simpler car - which helped it cement the brands reputation for reliability and quality. At the time this car was advertised, the seller made the following comments:

"This is pretty much the genesis of Lexus, Australian delivered and equipped with the mind blowing, utter reliable and smooth 4.0 litre 1UZ-FE engine and as I understand the price of this one when new was around $118k?

This car is a good as it gets as seen on the pictures with very little mileage for its age 211,471 Kms (that’s less than 7,000 kms/year!). Build quality compared to any new Lexus’s or any other car for that matter is second to none, I do believe this LS400 belongs to a different league and the number of details is simply endless. I have pretty much the whole service history, hence the condition. Everything works, everything. This is not a concourse type vehicle, but it has been kept to a very good standard.

Timing belt and water pump were replaced at 164,000 Kms (as recommended by Lexus to be done every 150,000 kilometres or 100,000 miles), oil, filter, front and rear brake pads were changed in Sep-2021, tires are in excellent condition as well. Not a single leak or even humidity showing in the engine bay or below...completely rust free (as expected)."
