Of all the Fox-bodied mustangs to have, this is the ultimate - the Cobra R. Designed for homologation racing purposes in the IMSA Firestone Firehawk Grand Sport and SCCA World Challenge series, only 107 units were built. Although several examples were actually raced, it's not uncommon to see them with very low mileage as with this example, as most people tended to purchase them purely as investments. This particular is advertised on Ebay USA with a starting price of $69,995 (USD), and it's the first one we've added to Classic Register. The seller notes that even the original dealer window sticker is still affixed!
The Cobra version of the Mustang produced 235hp from its enhanced Windsor 5.0l engine, and had many other improvements throughout the car including tuned suspension for improved handling, enhanced braking with discs all around and unique body components for identification. The Cobra R provided enthusiasts with the foundation to build a competitive track car. This included improvements to the suspension, brakes and cooling: convertible chassis bracing, revised spring rates for a lower stance, adjustable Koni struts and shocks, 13-inch front brake rotors with twin-piston calipers, larger radiator and oil cooler. The back seat, air conditioning, radio, power windows and power door locks were deleted to reduce weight. Externally, the fog lights were also removed providing openings for racer-installed brake-cooling ducts, and the 17-inch 6-spoke cast aluminium wheels sourced from the upcoming 1994 Mustang were painted black for a distinctive look.
