1994 Holden (HSV) VR Statesman 215i

This HSV Statesman (build number 029) is one of only 48 units (+ 3 Caprice models) produced in the VR series between September 1994 and March 1995, and the first on Classic Register. This was HSVs long wheelbase performance option, preceding the introduction of the 'Grange' nameplate on the VS based models from 1995. This particular car is currently advertised on Ebay Australia with a few days remaining, and bids at $8,200 (AUD).

As the seller has noted (and some fact checking of our own through HSV sources) only 19 of the 48 HSV Statesmans built received the 215i engine package, making this car exceptionally rare and a great opportunity for an early HSV enthusiast. We've not been able to source any detailed original material (brochures etc) confirming the precise features of these cars when new, but the seller notes that it was factory fitted with an automatic transmission, Harrop C4 brakes, HSV tape deck and stacker, and received the interior trim of the VR Senator. The Statesman was also available with the 'boulevard' levelling suspension package, and if optioned was fitted with unique (and now very hard to find) flat disc-style alloy wheels. If anyone has further information on these cars, please get in touch with us so we can improve this description.

This particular example is in its original Genesis Blue paint, and for the high 356,000km, appears to be in relatively good order - although the images are not particularly good and a thorough inspection would be recommended. Several HSV forum members have noted that specific production details can be sourced from HSV directly for each of the 48 cars, so this may be something a prospective purchaser or subsequent owner would consider doing to understand the history of number 029. The seller does note several issues: The original 'boulevard' suspension has unfortunately been removed and replaced, but the car retains the rare wheel package available with that specification. The log books and spare wheel were reportedly stolen, and several other relatively minor issues are noted such as a non-original VS grille having been fitted, partially failing digital display on the instrument cluster, and a faulty sunroof.

Update: The car finally sold for $10,100 (AUD). If you own a rare early HSV such as the VR Statesman, sign up and add your car to Classic Register. Follow us on Facebook for more interesting cars found for sale around the world.
