Here's something a little out of the ordinary, advertised for a while now on Carsales for $69,000 (AUD). The Bullet company used the legendary Mazda MX5 as the base for its high performance Roadster SS, being the first low production Aussie built sports car to achieve full Australian Design Rules compliance. Despite retaining a relatively close resemblance to the underlying MX5 from a distance, its modifications are extensive. A tubular chassis, re-manufactured and tuned Supercharged Lexus 4.0l V8, Brembo brakes, unique carbon composite panels, 18" x 9" ROH wheels and a full re-trim are just some of the works undertaken to create this limited edition performance roadster.
Pumping out 320kw, the SS V8 engine pulls the aerodynamic body from 0 - 100 in under 5 seconds, and magazine reviews of these cars have suggested that the chassis rigidity provided by the tubular frame and adjustable suspension keeps them with the best round any corner. It's not just the mechanical components that received attention either. Full leather, sports steering wheel, power windows, sound systems and many other features were also fitted by the Bullet factory.
This particular car has a measly 7,500km on the clock, and claims to have been used as Bullet's show car, before being placed in storage for many years, then purchased by the current owner in 2014. As number 2 of 24 built, you'd be in a very exclusive club having this piece, although we note that there is another currently offered on Carsales, but asking $6,000 more with higher kilometres. The car comes with original service books and owners' manual. It's difficult to know what will happen with values of these low build number cars in future, but it certainly offers supercar performance at a fraction of the price.
