Purchased roughly 18-20 years ago as a 258 powered Renegade, this Jeep was torn down and completely rebuilt about 15 years ago. The cowl, dash, inner & outer fenders and windshield are all that remain of the original CJ-7. The body tub was replaced with a 4WD Hardware fiberglass body, brand new hard doors were purchased, a new rolling chassis was purchased from Smith's Jeep and a 360 V8 from a Cherokee/ Wagoneer was dropped in place along with a TH350 Chevy auto transmission. The frame was modified to fit the fiberglass tub and the Model 20 rear and Dana 30 front axles were fitted with 4:10 gears. A Dana 300 T-case was also part of the rolling chassis. Everything was rebuilt, painted and assembled into the beautiful red CJ-7 here. New front seats were installed and finishing touches were being put on the CJ when a death in the family pretty much stopped the build.
The only things really missing are a back seat (the original ratty one is available if the buyer wants it), soft top and carpets. No rust and one small bubble in the paint from dripped brake fluid on the left front fender.
It has Cooper Adventurer A/T 235/R15 tires wrapped around M/T aluminum rims to finish out the look.
The truck starts right up with two pumps and a hold of the skinny pedal. The stock 360 w 4bbl would put out approximately 220 HP and over 300 lb ft of torque. This engine was built slightly according to the owner and has less than 1000 miles on it, the odometer shows 78,000 miles, however, the odometer is the only thing on the Jeep with that mileage. The exhaust exits through dual custom pipes and sounds rather throaty.
The Jeep runs and drives very well. Power steering and power brakes (with discs in front and drums in back) make driving it that much easier.
In essence a new truck, this Jeep is ready to go; fun summer cruiser; winter driver; capable 4 wheeler; whatever you want it to be. Total turn key and go.
The asking price on this nearly new CJ-7 is $25,500.
