For sale: 1986 Porsche 928 S

sold

This 2 owner car was purchased brand new at Cavanaugh Bros. Porsche/Audi in Manchester, NH after coming across the pond from Stuttgart. That owner eventually moved down to CT and roughly 20 years ago, the current owner purchased the car. In those 20 years he feels he has put close to 20K miles of the 70K on the odometer.

The car is all original. It has not been painted and no work in the interior has been done. Aside from the usual wear items, she is all original.

Although the only option code shown on the rear floor tag is C02 for US emissions compliant, she came from Germany with a slew of added bits. They include power steering, power brakes, ABS, 8 way power heated seats (both driver and passenger), cruise control, A/C, 8 speaker stereo system ( Eclipse, the original Blaupunkt head is no longer with the car, it had been removed by the first owner), power windows, power mirrors, power sun roof, rear leather console, electronic trunk release, and electric rear defrost.

The tires/wheels are Goodyear Eagle Sports, 255/50/16s on the stock 928 wheels. As an 86.5, (VIN of 1342) this car has the 4 piston brake calipers, true dual exhaust, S4 suspension bits and the bolt on rear most muffler.

The car has been very well cared for, getting the oil changed every year before it's winter hibernation and anything else it needed, adding up to well over $10,000 in receipts, which include timing belt and tensioners, all new shift linkage bushings/coupler, water pump, hood and rear hatch struts, although the rear hatch struts didn't last that long and start to give, all accessory belts, passenger window switch, transmission and rear diff gaskets, diff and transmission fluid change and all new magnesium lug nuts. All the above within 12,000 miles.

The car runs and drives like a muscle car/sports car combined. The 5.0L, 32 Valve, EFI, V8 pushes out 288 HP and almost 300 lb ft of torque and with a weight distribution of nearly 50/50, handles like a track car. This car is very easy and fun to drive. The 5 speed and torque allow this car to hit 60 MPH in just about 6 seconds and being well balanced allowed this car to perform just as well as same year 911's.

This car in show condition, although, she has enough foibles to not be considered concourse quality. There is some wear on the driver seat, although a little bit of dye would make that go away, there is a faded spot on the rear carpet (again, some dye would probably hide that too), a very small nick on the forward console cover and the most egregious is the flapper valve noise in the ventilation system. It quiets down completely after about 5 minutes but can be heard upon start up in the cold start video.. however, is completely gone in the walk around video and driving videos.

In 1986, only 877 928S cars were imported into the US and Canada; most of those were automatics. In 5 speed, black over Can-Can Red leather, this is a rather rare edition. This Porsche 928S, 5 speed can be had for $42,000
