For sale: 1969 Morris Mini Cooper S (MK2)

We’ve has this 1969 (early MK2) original Australian Cooper S since 2017. It was purchased from WA, and put on full rego when we got the car. It received a major mechanical service in 2020 (documents go with the car), but it was then stored as part of a larger car collection, and has not been on the road since. 

We are currently working on servicing the engine fluids and the brakes, to get the car ready to be back on the road, which won’t take much work. The price listed is to take the car as-is, without that work being done. Once we’ve completed the service, the price will increase slightly based on parts costs – so if you’d prefer to take the car as is and do this work yourself, please come out and have a look (available for inspection on 5th and 20th September).

This is a genuine 1969 Cooper S, with “YG2S4” body prefix, and “9FXEY” engine number. The car is listed on the Ausmini Cooper S Register, which notes a production date of June 1969, and also confirms it was always a two-tone car (originally “GTO Green” with “Crystal White” roof), and black vinyl trim. You can see the remnants of the paint sticker on the firewall which refers to the crystal white colour – and as mentioned above, the GTO green is present in the engine bay and other internal panels. The current exterior colour is a similar (but darker) BRG colour, with white roof.

The car is in great overall condition, no rust at all. The exterior paint is fantastic (I estimate it was repainted approx. 10 years ago and has always been garaged). It has good trim (just the headlining needs a bit of tidying up). The engine bay could do with painting (and retains its original “GTO Green” paint around the firewall and inner guards).

Being the Cooper S, it has a number of unique features including the twin fuel tanks, trunk board (and various brackets) – and you can see remnants of the under parcel shelf insulation which was present on the Cooper S cars. It retains the original Hydrolastic suspension which seems to have held pressure very well for the near decade we’ve had the car. 

On the front end it has the original spec 7.5” disc brakes, 120MPH speedo, and twin carbs. One item that is missing is the VH44 brake booster – those can be sourced NEW for $395 from places like minisport. The car is otherwise very complete, and ready to be enjoyed. It sits on a set of minilite style wheels which look great. It comes with an original Cooper S spare.
