This MK V 3.5l saloon has been in the same ownership for 57 years. Initially purchased in 1964 from the second owner of the car, it was driven almost daily by the teacher who had just purchased it. It was originally painted Battleship Grey but as he drove the car, little things started getting weary and after about 20 years of ownership, it was decided to do a body off restoration. Everything was re-touched on this car and either cleaned and repainted or replaced. That was 35 years ago.
The car is totally numbers matching and the 3.5L inline 6 cylinder puts out about 120 HP and 180 LBFT of torque. That is funneled through a 4 speed manual transmission. The car starts right up and runs and drives beautifully.
In those last 35 years, the car has been driven as far north as central New Hampshire (from south east CT) and as far south as Maryland. It was driven regularly, but only on fair weather days. It was taken to many Jaguar Concours events and took home many awards, it has also been out on many club events, as the owners are active club members.
The two tone grey paint is done in colors the owner's wife liked and he can't remember if they are standard Jaguar colors or something from a color chart.
All the lights and gauges work and the four drum brakes stop the 3800 lb car rather easily.
Despite the regular use, she has held up very well with only a few minor issues in the paint seen here and there. The interior shows the same care with only minimal wear seen throughout the leather and wood finishes. Unfortunately, this last winter a mouse got in for the first time and created a hole in the rear headliner.
The frame and under carriage show the most wear but it is still painted with minimal surface rust and everything underneath operates as it should as well.
The Michelin 185x16 Radials were replaced in 2005 but haven't seen but about 20,000 miles in that time and show minimal wear.
It is felt that there are roughly 35,000+ miles on the car since it's restoration.
The car is ready to take to any show and can very possibly win. It is ready and reliable to take on driving tours, club events or out to the regular cars and coffees. The pictures really do tell the story, and the two tone combination really brings out the car's lines so beautifully.
