This well restored Strato Blue Daytona convertible is one of very few that were factory exported.. Originally, this car was exported to the Netherlands where it was sold new. I've only ever seen one other Daytona convertible in Europe, which came up for sale around 2017. This example was advertised on a Swedish auction site (https://bilwebauctions.se/en/sommarauktion-2020/studebaker-daytona-convertible-v8-2324), and sold for 99,000 SEK (about $10,000 USD) - Very cheap, assuming that price is accurate on the site!
The original advertisement noted the following comments:
"tudebaker 259 V8, 4.6 liters, 170 hp, 3-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. (Borg-Warner). Free wheel. Matching numbers. Original Phillips radio (out of function). Strato Blue with white hood.
The car was built in Canada, and with Studebaker's own V8 engine. Only 702 Daytona Convertibles were manufactured. Of these, 13 were exported. This is one of these 13 export cars and was sold new in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in July 1964.
The car has had only three users / owners. It was sold new in July 1964 to W. A. ??van der Velden who kept the car for 40 years. In 2004, the car owner changed to Leo Engels, living some five miles east of van der Velden. Purchase contracts from 1964, various documents from the Netherlands included, as well as instruction manual and original service booklet from 1964.
In 2011, the car was purchased by the Finnish Studebaker collector Pekka Polvinen who never registered the car in Finland. The current owner, Mikael Stjerna, bought the car in Finland in November 2015, still with Dutch registration plates. In Finland, however, the brakes had been renovated.
In late 2016, the car was renovated in Sweden.
