This classic convertible was purchased roughly 12 years ago by the current owner as a fun weekend cruiser to take to local cruise nights and car shows. He truly enjoyed the car through most of those years and although he still likes the car and enjoys his time out in her, he simply isn't going out at the same rate he used to and figures it's time to let her go to a new home.
The cabriolet was a slightly upscale version of the AE series roadster as it came with roll up windows and detachable rain seals for the upper part of the windows. It also had the stylish chrome outer support/hinge.
This car originally came out of California and migrated to CT in the late 90's. It was reportedly repainted/restored by the previous owner in what appears to be a close match to mariner blue and blue belle blue, changed from the original Saxon Gray and Ravenswood Brown. The interior was reupholstered at the same time and done in matching colors, in vinyl. The paint still presents very well and has a beautiful shine, due to the lacquer paint, there are two small areas where it has started to spider and there are a few small stone chips. The frame and underbody were also restored/painted and there is no rust on the body or frame. The wire wheels were repainted in the original Aurora Red, which contrast wonderfully with the blues and the white wall tires.
When the car was purchased, the new owner wasn't happy with the way the engine was running and sourced a newly rebuilt truck 194 CI that had been bored .30 over from Haldeon Motors in NJ. This engine pulls very nicely, starts very easily and runs smoothly with no smoke or any known major leaks. The original engine will come with the car. The 194 CI inline 6 applies the power through a non synchro 3 speed manual transmission and out to the standard rear diff. The car easily cruises at 45-50 MPH and chugs effortlessly up hills in third gear.
In his ownership, the bearings and front brakes have been replaced along with the Firestone "Gum Dipped" 4.75/5.00-19 white wall tires.
The lever action brakes stop the car very nicely. The headlights, running lights and brakes all work as they should.
Upfront, LED blinkers were added and hooked into rear blinkers, those are currently misbehaving but they will be fixed before the car is sold.
There are gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, miles per hour, amps and fuel; they all work correctly.
The canvas top is in excellent condition and folds up and down easily.
Overall, this car is in beautiful condition, could very probably win at a local show, runs and drives strong and smooth and is ready for her new home. The asking price is $32,500
