This 1964 Studebaker Daytona convertible is one of just 702 built, and fewer that a handful that have been imported by enthusiasts into Australia. The car has been owned by the seller for over 20 years, and came from a former QLD owner who personally imported the car from the USA.
While this project is a long way from being finished, the current owner has completed a significant amount of work at great cost, including major rust repairs and undertaking a right hand drive conversion.
The car originally had serious rust in the bulkhead, floors and sills. To deal with this, a solid 2-door hardtop donor body was used to replace the relevant sections of the car. This included the bulkhead, floors and rear end inner panels. The purists will note the presence of the hardtop rear deck (behind the rear seats). The correct convertible rear deck panel comes with the car but does have rust that needs repairing. A new panel could also be sourced from the USA.
Both the inner and outer original sills had suffered from serious rust, and the inner sills have been professionally repaired and welded in. The car comes with brand new outer sill panels ready to be fitted, as shown in the images. Several other new and used panels have been fitted to the car where necessary. The convertible chassis is in good condition other than some surface rust, and was undercoated some years ago when the body was off.
Mechanically, the car is a rolling chassis with steering connected, but does not have brakes. The car will come with a 259 Studebaker V8 engine (long motor excluding the gearbox), which is not fitted to the car.
For verification purposes, we note this car is listed on the Studebaker Daytona convertible register, and comes with its original body tags (being the tags fitted to the LHS door jamb and in the engine bay). Images of those items will be provided shortly (they are kept separate from the car and can be shown on inspection or enquiry). The seller has an extensive file on the car including images of the car in its complete original state, and receipts for all work undertaken
